The Road of the two seas
The A2 - Highway of the Mediterranean, crossing the territories of Campania, Basilicata and Calabria, represents the gateway to Sicily and the natural end of the international route E45.
Formerly known as the A3 / Salerno - Reggio Calabria highway, its work was started in the early 1970s and it has represented for that era a state-of-the-art engineering work as it has some of the most important bridges and viaducts in Europe and it has involved some of the best Italian designers.
Along the A2, the highway 280, named "Road of the two Seas", connects the cities of Lamezia with Catanzaro.
A traffic island in reinforced concrete subdivide the road in two lanes for each direction of travel. The realisation took place through a contract divided into three successive lots.
